  3. Texas A&M, 8-0

  4. Alabama, 7-1

Survival is the name of the game, and Bama did just that in a 29-22 win over South Carolina in which it trailed late in the 4th quarter. Still, they have yet to drop a conference game and will have a week off before a somewhat tricky final stretch.

  5. Georgia, 6-1

Curiously, the Dawgs pulled ahead of neighbors Tech in this week’s poll, despite having been on a bye. It’s a tough closing schedule with a couple rivalries and the Longhorns coming to Athens.

  6. Oregon, 7-1

Oregon got the win over Wisconsin 21-7 in an ugly rainy game. They still have a difficult schedule to manage and may need to run the table for a playoff berth with how the field is shaping up. It starts this week in Iowa City.

  7. Georgia Tech, 8-0

Rolling right along, though dropping in this week’s poll, Tech picked up a 41-16 win over Syracuse. Likely need to manage the rest of the ACC schedule to guarantee a playoff spot.

  8. Ole Miss, 7-1

The Rebels backed up their good start to the season with a solid road win 34-26 over Oklahoma. You love to see it. They’ll close on a relatively light slate in a quest for an SEC title and playoff appearance.

  9. Vanderbilt, 7-1

The Commodores picked up another ranked win in beating Missouri 17-10. This team is no joke and finds ways to win games by playing complementary football. Highly anticipated matchup in Austin on Saturday.

  10. Miami, 6-1

Miami bounced back with a resounding 42-7 win over Stanford last week. With the way the ACC is shaping up, the ‘Canes will likely need to win out for a playoff spot. Easier said than done in a wild ACC this year.

  11. BYU, 7-0

BYU just keeps winning, this time in Ames for a 41-27 defeat of Iowa State to stay undefeated. They are definitely a potential bid stealer in the Big 12. Off this week before a showdown with Texas Tech.
