That’s week 3 in the books. Business handled.
A week after delivering one of the great comeback victories in program history, Texas returned to DKR and took care of things against UTSA, 30–6. The Longhorns are 3–0, remain No. 1 in polls, and have completed their non-conference portion of this season’s proceedings.
But this wasn't exactly the offensive explosion we were expecting.
Fortunately, Will Muschamp's defense came to play. The Longhorns held UTSA to just six points, keeping the Roadrunners out of the end zone for the first time in seven years, and made sure the outcome was never seriously in doubt. Three games into the season, this defense is giving us plenty to be excited about.
The Buckeyes gave us a night we'll never forget. The Roadrunners gave us a reminder that this team is still a work in progress.
Three games. Three wins. Plenty left to prove.

Texas didn't deliver the offensive fireworks many expected, but the Longhorn defense made sure there was never much doubt about the outcome. UTSA managed just a 23.0% success rate, converted only 9.1% of its third downs, and failed to find the end zone. The Longhorns also won the turnover battle and generated more havoc, while their offense produced 3.75 points per scoring opportunity compared to UTSA's 1.48. It wasn't always pretty offensively, but Texas controlled the game where it mattered most. Three games, three wins, and another strong showing from Muschamp's defense.

Our Player of the Game goes to Rasheem Biles, who wasted absolutely no time setting the tone for a dominant defensive performance against UTSA.
On the very first play from scrimmage, Biles intercepted Owen McCown and returned the ball eight yards, setting Texas up with excellent field position. Four plays later, Arch Manning found Cam Coleman for a touchdown, and the Longhorns were off and running.
Biles finished with four tackles and the interception, helping lead a defense that held the Roadrunners to just 142 yards and one third-down conversion. UTSA entered Saturday having scored a touchdown in 74 consecutive games. That streak ended in Austin.
How did we do?
My official prediction was Texas 48, UTSA 13 — which turned out to be a little optimistic for both offenses. The Longhorns won comfortably, 30–6, but the defenses led the way. Congrats to any under bettors.
The BOK Model, meanwhile, projected Texas by 28 points with a 95% chance to win. The actual margin was 24, just four points off the projection. And with the market favoring Texas by 30.5, the model correctly identified UTSA as the side to take against the spread.
Another win for the data! If you’re tracking, that’s 2-1 for The Model.
My biggest question entering the game was whether Texas could establish a consistent running game and get the offense firing on all cylinders. The Longhorns found some success on the ground, but Arch had his most inconsistent performance of the year so far. So the questions remain.
3–0. We'll certainly take it.
Final Thoughts
Well, that wasn't exactly the encore we were hoping for.
A week after one of the most exhilarating victories in program history, Texas returned to DKR and delivered a rather uninspiring 30–6 win over UTSA.
The defense? Outstanding. Three games into the season, Coach Boom is proving why he was brought back in.
The offense? We've got some work to do.
But here's the good news. Texas is 3–0. We've already beaten Ohio State. We're sitting atop the polls. And we're finding ways to win while still having plenty of room to improve.
Three down. A whole lot of football left to play.
