BOK’s Top 10: Week 5

The Hoosiers made the biggest splash of the weekend in a dominating effort over Illinois. Photo: Getty Images

  1. Ohio State, 3-0

The #1 team had the week off and will be well rested before a trip to the west coast on Saturday. Possible upset spot? Not likely, but their first road test of the season provides an intriguing spot to watch.

  2. Miami, 4-0

Another complete team effort from the Hurricanes saw them put Billy Napier’s job in serious jeopardy with a 26-7 victory over Florida. Will get a week to rest ahead of a highly anticipated matchup with another team in our top 5.

  3. Georgia, 3-0

Rested before Saturday’s huge game against the Tide. Bama has won 9 of the last 10 matchups in the series and have been a thorn in the side of Kirby Smart the last few years. The winner will likely be seen as the team to beat moving forward in the SEC.

  4. Oregon, 4-0

So much for Civil War...Oregon easily took care of business in a 41-7 beating of Oregon State. It served as a simple tune-up game for the Ducks before Saturday night’s battle in Happy Valley.

  5. Florida State, 3-0

The Noles dismantled another outmatched opponent in Kent State, 66-10. I mean, 775 yards?? This team has yet to be slowed down whatsoever - don’t expect that to change on Saturday when they go on the road to Charlottesville.

  6. Penn State, 3-0

This is the time for James Franklin and Penn State. Coming off a bye week - while Oregon is not - means they should be the fresher team. They should also be more motivated after losing the Big Ten championship game last season to Dan Lanning and the Ducks. Night game, white out game. Now or never.

  7. Oklahoma, 4-0

The Sooners were dealt a huge blow as starting QB John Mateer had hand surgery this week after suffering a broken bone in his throwing hand during their 24-17 win over Auburn. Backup Michael Hawkins, Jr. steps in as Mateer is expected to miss about a month.

  8. LSU, 4-0

The Tigers’ best wins are starting to lose their luster, with Clemson (1-3) and Florida (1-3) both coming completely undone in the early season. They took care of SE Louisiana, 56-10 this past week and have a huge road test in Oxford on Saturday. Should learn a lot about both teams after that one.

  9. Texas A&M, 3-0

The Aggies got to rest after their big win over Notre Dame in South Bend. They welcome a wounded Auburn team to Kyle Field on Saturday. It’s a series that has gone back and forth since the Ags’ arrival to the SEC, with Auburn leading it 7-6 in that time.

  10. Texas, 3-0

Getting the offense back on track! Opponent aside, the Longhorns showed more rhythm and explosiveness in a 55-0 win over Sam Houston. Now comes a much needed bye week to get a bunch of guys healthy before conference play begins.

  11. Indiana, 4-0

Woah! Not many saw 63-10 coming in the Hoosiers’ dominance over Illinois on Saturday. Many were even picking the Illini to win outright. Curt Cignetti clearly has something brewing in Bloomington, as a playoff team from last season looks even better this year under quarterback Fernando Mendoza (the current favorite on the Heisman odds board - learn the name!) Only a matter of time before Top Tendiana comes to fruition.
