Week 8 BOK Poll
Miami, 5-0
The Canes’ resume still holds strong in our voters’ minds, receiving two-thirds of the first place votes. Possible trap game on a Friday night coming up.
Next: vs. Louisville
Ohio State, 6-0
The Buckeyes smothered Illinois 34-16 in a game that was not nearly that close. This is easily a top 4 seed come playoff time, really the only question in the regular season will be The Game.
Next: @ Wisconsin
Indiana, 6-0
The second Big Ten team in our top 3 now, Indiana picked up a program defining win, and locked down its superstar coach’s future with the team all in one week after the 30-20 win in Eugene. Look out, college football world. Curt Cignetti is building a monster in Bloomington.
Next: vs. Michigan State
Texas A&M, 6-0
The Aggies passed their latest test, dispatching Florida 34-17. They’ve continued to show strength on both sides of the ball, albeit the resume reads as such: 3 home wins over SEC teams with a combined 1 SEC win. Now begins a 3 game road stretch, so we shall see if that train stays on the tracks this time.
Next: @ Arkansas
Alabama, 5-1
The latest win over a ranked opponent came in Columbia with the Tide holding on 27-24 over Missouri. The schedule doesn’t let up, however, facing the rival Vols who have started to turn the tide (pun intended) in the series recently.
Next: vs. #11 Tennessee
Ole Miss, 6-0
Uhh, what was that? The Lane Train eeked out a 24-21 win over Washington State. Yowza. Call it a look ahead game, or indicative of some greater issues to come? We’ll find out quickly on Saturday in Athens.
Next: @ #9 Georgia
Texas Tech, 6-0
Rolling right along, the Red Raiders crushed Kansas 42-17, and still haven’t played a game within 24 points this year. I guess you can say the only problem with that is once they are in a tight game, we don’t know how they’ll respond. The roster investment appears to be paying huge dividends.
Next: @ Arizona State
Oregon, 5-1
Ouch. The latest victim in the Curt Cignetti path of destruction. All is not lost for the Ducks, however, as they dodge Ohio State on the schedule and only face remaining test of USC and Washington in conference play. Should be solidly in the playoff field come December.
Next: @ Rutgers
Georgia, 5-1
We won’t talk about the refs, but the slow starts are a major concern for Georgia, who let Auburn beat themselves once again in the 20-10 win after going down 10-0 early. Still not sure what to make of this year’s Bulldogs.
Next: vs. #6 Ole Miss
Georgia Tech, 6-0
The Jackets picked up a 35-20 win over Virginia Tech, doing nothing flashy or noteworthy in the process. That’s just how they like it. Curiously, they’re an underdog going into Durham on Saturday. “Upset” watch?
Next: @ Duke
Tennessee, 5-1
Yeesh. The Vols survived a scare at home in a 34-31 win over Arkansas. That defense has got some real problems and it’s likely to bite them a time or two more before the year is done. Nothing like a rivalry game to get right though, huh Longhorn fans?
